If so drop me a line....

The New North School
"Second Avenue - Milburn Road"

Information and History

Both schools (right & below) were built around 1897 and due to disrepair were demolished in 1997 to make way for a new "North" school for the central Hirst area (above).

The site is now a playing field where both buildings used to stand.

Fond memories include at the end of break being told to fetch the old school handbell for the teacher on playground duty to ring, playing crab football in the main hall, bean bags on sports days, only having to attend on certain mornings or afternoons due to the electricity shortage brought about by the national strike and going on a trip to the Farne Islands where we got caught trying to smuggle birds eggs in our bags....!!

Teachers I can recall during my time in the Main school (around 1969 to 1972) were Mr Hermiston the Headmaster, Mr Wood and Miss Hughes.

If anyone can remember any more names drop me a line at my e-mail address and I'll add them to this list.......

The Old Hirst North First School - 4 to 6yrs

The Old Hirst North Main School - 7 to 10yrs
